Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English literature. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then, she became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. Mitchell became the the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a guest on the TV news show Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She served as a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a range of notable stories, including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and was frequently along with the president Reagan for summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
